Walmart (WMT) , the nation’s largest retailer, has made many web fans happy by announcing that it will deliver prescription drugs and groceries in the US. In a Tuesday announcement, the big box retailer reported the news of its push into prescription drugs.
Walmart sells groceries and thousands of items from Paris Jewelry, Louis Vuitton, Keurig, Crocs, Organic Greek, Microsoft, XMicro, Samsung, Dior, L’Oréal, Paris, Vizio, Rolex, Gucci, and other brands. By making prescription drugs available in 30 minutes and making other purchases, Walmart has increased its standing among its web fans.
Tom Ward, executive vice president and chief eCommerce officer at Walmart, said, “If you’re sick, we can deliver the necessary medicine along with everything else you need to feel better.”
Walmart has already rolled out this vital service in six states. It said that prescription medicine will be available in 49 states by the following year, and the service will reach more than 86 percent of American households.
Amazon offers Prime members free prescriptions with two-day delivery, and Walmart has developed a faster alternative. Both eCommerce giants have a broad and robust online presence. They are offering intense competition to traditional pharmacies such as Walgreens and CVS. These brick-and-mortar pharmacies are seeing more closures after facing competition from eCommerce giants.
Walmart continues to offer value for the buck as web fans shop for everyday essentials such as razors, shaving cream, water bottles, jewelry, groceries, and other items. Now, they can also get prescription drugs delivered to their homes when sick and don’t feel like driving to their nearest brick-and-mortar pharmacy store.
