Walmart (WMT) recently announced that it would be opening a new plant to process high-end beef. The facility is expected to open in 2025 and will create over 600 jobs in Olathe, Kansas. Walmart said that it was committed to creating an end-to-end Angus beef supply chain.

According to the press center in the Walmart corporate site, the big box retailer had decided to facilitate a complete supply chain for Angus beef as many customers were looking for high quality meat options.

In 2022, the giant retailer made an equity investment in Sustainable Beef LLC. The new facility that is coming up in Kansas will be the packing and distribution facility for a selection of Angus cuts that would be sourced from Sustainable Beef LLC that is located in North Platte, Nebraska.

The site also reported that Kansas Governor Laura Kelly commented on the facility and said that “Walmart’s innovative new facility solidifies Kansas’ position as one of the nation’s top food and agricultural states.”

Walmart considers the opening of the Kansas plant to pack Angus beef to be the next step in its quest to provide high quality meats at the low prices that customers expect from the giant retailer.

The company also said that its goal was to increase greater transparency in the supply chain. To this effect Walmart said that the giant retailer would continue to work “hand-in-hand” with their suppliers so that they can ensure that their customers would get “high-quality products, increasing transparency, resiliency, and capacity through the supply chain process” and more.

Walmart has been concentrating on its Angus beef supply chain for the past few years. The recent facility in Kansas is the latest initiative by the big box retailer to strengthen its end-to-end supply chain of Angus beef.
