As sustainability and consumer awareness has increased, shopping retailers are tailoring some of their products to meet the needs of these shoppers, who are looking for a good deal, yet want to shop in a sustainable, healthy and environmentally friendly way. Walmart has introduced a new shopping experience online. It is called Built for Better and has two programs: Built for Better–For You and Built for Better–For the Planet.

The Build for Better shopping destination will help customers shop for products that could promote personal wellbeing while making a minimal adverse impact on the environment. The retail behemoth has made this move to increase its strategy of sustainability as well to become a regenerative retailer. It wishes to source responsibly. It also has goals to stop waste and to reduce emissions.

Built for Better–For You

Food items and everyday essentials are grouped under this category. They adhere to various different standards some of which are

  • EWG Verified
  • Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX,
  • Parabens free certification
  • Bee Better Certified
  • Best Aquaculture Practices.

Built for Better–For the Planet

This category as its name suggests will feature products that have been sourced sustainably. These will be products that have a lower impact on climate change as well as on the environment. This category will have products that fall under 30 different standards, some of which are

  • Rainforest Alliance Certified
  • Energy Star Certified
  • Better Cotton Initiative.

The largest retailer in the nation has been taking steps not only to increase its customer base as it competes with Amazon but is also trying to do its bit for the planet, while offering cheap yet sustainable products. It is also trying to tap into new markets including millennials who are reportedly more health conscious and environmentally conscious.

Consumers can shop on Walmart’s website and on Walmart’s app for products from the Built for Better categories. The giant retailer is offering several pickup and delivery options. There will be a Built for Better icon on these products.
