Two of the world’s largest companies, Walmart and Paramount+, the streaming platform of Paramount Global have reached a deal that will let Walmart+ members stream video content from the platform with advertisements. The deal is important for both; the big box retailers wants to grow its paid subscriber base and Paramount is looking to expand its user base, amid stiff competition from other streaming platforms in the entertainment industry.
People familiar with the matter said that both the companies have accepted a 12-month exclusivity agreement as well as a two-year deal where Walmart’s paid members get access to Paramount’s ad streaming service. The deal, which will be implemented in September, is the latest tie-up as several companies are looking at bundling content to attract viewers.
Although this is an exclusive, yet new partnership between the two giant American corporations, the two companies have worked together. The entertainment company has an office located in the headquarters of the giant retailer in Bentonville, Arkansas that is dedicated to Walmart. Walmart also sells consumer products and home entertainment related to Paramount.
Walmart+ subscribers will gain access to popular shows and original dramas. They will be given access to what is called the Paramount+ Essential Plan. Some of the options that will be made available with advertisements for subscription members include the following:
1883
PAW Patrol
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
Movies including Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Live Sports and more.
Although Walmart is increasing the perks offered to Walmart+ members, the subscription remains the same at $98 a year or $12.95 per month.
Streaming is becoming extremely competitive and Paramount+ will grow as it taps into the wide Walmart+ subscribers, whose exact number has not been revealed by the big box retailer. Walmart is also looking to provide additional services to its paid subscribers in order to attract new subscribers as well as retain the ones who already have Walmart+ subscriptions.
