According to police, a man was killed and another is facing multiple charges after their attempt to carjack a woman was foiled when she stole one of their guns and turned it on her attackers. The lady shot and killed the suspected carjacker in Las Vegas after he left his gun on the seat while attempting to steal her vehicle.
According to KTLA’s sister station KLAS, North Las Vegas police responded to a reported homicide near Coleman Street and West San Miguel Avenue, just east of Cheyenne High School, on November 19.
Officers discovered a man wearing a ski mask laying in the street, bleeding profusely from his head. The man was declared dead after multiple attempts at life-saving measures failed. Police said a woman approached them shortly after with her hands in the air and a handgun in her pocket. According to the woman, whose account was corroborated by witness testimony, she and her friend were parked outside of a home in the area when a vehicle blocked her in, according to police. Several men got out of the car and approached the couple with guns.
According to police, the female driver of the vehicle was dragged out of the vehicle by one of the men who was having difficulty starting the vehicle. As he struggled to start the car, he placed his gun on his lap. An arrest report states that one of the women took the gun from the man’s lap. One of the men then tackled the woman. She shot the man who tackled her during the struggle, prompting one of the other men to open fire on her. The lady then fled and hid in the side yard of a nearby house until the police arrived.
On Friday, December 2, police apprehended 18-year-old Jaylen Morrison. According to court documents, a surviving would-be carjacker, Morrison, faces charges of second-degree kidnapping, attempted robbery, burglary, and conspiracy to commit robbery, all with a deadly weapon.
The vehicle that initially blocked the victims’ vehicle was discovered to be Morrison’s mother’s by North Las Vegas detectives. According to the arrest report, detectives received a search warrant and discovered a gun and ammunition that matched the shell casings found near the man’s body. Detectives also received cell phone records that placed Morrison at the scene of the crime, reports said.
