A vegan meal delivery service called Daily Harvest whose investors include a long list of celebrity film and sports stars has reached out to customers advising them to get rid of one of their new products called French Lentil + Leek Crumbles. Several customers faced moderate to severe symptoms gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms after consuming this product. Reports say that the lentil based product might also cause liver damage.
In a statement, Daily Harvest said that it had received reports that its vegan product French Lentils + Leek Crumbles had caused gastrointestinal issues in some people after they ate the vegan item. The company added that they had taken “immediate steps” to address consumer complaints. They cautioned customers to dispose of the food item if they had it in their homes or elsewhere.
The recall statement on Sunday from Daily Harvest stated: “If you have any French Lentil + Leek Crumbles, please dispose of them and do not eat them.
According to a report in NBC News, an email sent by Daily Harvest to a customer on Friday and viewed by the outlet asked the customer to throw their lentils “out of an abundance of caution.” It also offered $10 credit for each bag of the product that was bought.
The email also said, “A small number of customers have reported gastrointestinal discomfort after consuming our French Lentil + Leek Crumbles.” It continued, “As included in our cooking instructions, lentils must be thoroughly cooked to an internal temperature of 165 degrees F.”
Several customers of the vegan company had gone on social media to complain about the serious problems they faced after eating the product containing lentil and leek. The customers including Luke Tashie posted on Daily Harvest’s Reddit page and Instagram of being hospitalized. They also complained of severe stomach pain as well as “liver pain.”
Daily Harvest was founded by Rachel Drori. The company has seen a huge number of celebrity investors including celebrity Oscar winner actress Gwyneth Paltrow, who is also a healthy living guru and founder of Goop. NBA celebrity superstars Blake Griffin and Carmelo Anthony have invested in Daily Harvest. Legendary American tennis superstar Serena Williams and celebrity chef Bobby Flay are also investors.
