The prosecution’s case against mother of three, Kouri Richins, 33, is appearing in a Park City, Utah, court on Monday for a detention hearing, now includes the fresh information regarding the widow’s purported search history. The Utah mom Googled, “luxury prisons for the rich.” In addition, she Googled, “Is naloxone similar to heroin, ‘What is considered non-natural manner of death?”
In connection with the passing of her husband, Kouri Richins was charged on May 8 with three charges of drug possession with the intent to distribute and one crime of aggravated murder. The three children of the couple’s three children are the subject of an ongoing child custody issue, a separate civil lawsuit over Eric Richins’ trust, and an ongoing probate action involving his inheritance.
According to court records, Eric Richins said that twice before taking an apparent lethal overdose, he consumed something that his wife had given him, which made him feel sick. This indicates that Richins believed his wife had tried to poison him numerous times before.
According to the records, investigators also described a series of illegal fentanyl purchases made in the months before her husband’s passing. Six days had passed since the claimed last pill delivery when he died, according to police.
Kouri Richins released a children’s book in March of last year to aid kids in coping with the loss of a loved one. The book “Are You with Me?” was taken down from Amazon after she was charged.
She will either be released or kept in detention until the conclusion of her trial, according to the judge who will make the decision. However, what was supposed to be a bond hearing seemed to turn into a prejudicial hearing against the defendant that portrays a mini trial. It has been reported that the state took advantage of the rules for bond hearing.
She allegedly used a deadly amount of fentanyl to kill her spouse of nine years, Eric Richins. She is accused of aggravated murder, criminal homicide, and three counts of drug possession with the intent to distribute. She hasn’t yet admitted guilt.
Kouri was heavily in debt and is accused of killing her husband to access insurance and estate money. The prosecution claims that Richins attempted to modify a life insurance policy so that she would be the only beneficiary and took money out of bank accounts without her husband’s knowledge. They also cite several instances where she is said to have tried to poison him.
In contrast, her attorneys contend in documents filed on Friday that Richins had the legal right to take money out of their joint accounts, assert that “there is no evidence identifying the computer from which the login was initiated” when the life insurance policy change attempt was made, and maintain that she did not try to poison him.
The judge announced Kouri Richards will remain in custody as she is charged with aggravated murder which is a capital felony. Kouri Richards could face the death penalty. The judge said due to the powerful charges, she is too much of a risk to harm herself as well as be a flight risk. She is not a suitable candidate for supervision outside a facility because of her behavior purchasing fentanyl.
