In a stunning development, Kouri Richins, a Utah mother who authored a book about her experiences with grief following her husband’s death, has been charged with murder. The news has left many in the community shocked and confused, as Kouri had been seen as a pillar of strength and resilience.
Kouri Richins was taken into custody on May 8 in Summit County on suspicion of three counts of drug distribution-related possession regarding aggravated homicide. The murder is said to have taken place on March 3, 2022. According to his obituary, Eric Richins, the husband of Kouri Richins, passed away on March 4, 2022, in bed on March 4, 2022, at 3:22 a.m. where Eric Richins’ body was discovered. The charging papers state that Kouri claimed they were celebrating her business house closure on March 3 at 11 p.m. She claimed that after making him a Moscow Mule in the kitchen, she took it to their bedroom where he drank it while still in bed.

The Richins celebrated Valentine’s Day with an in-home dinner a few weeks prior to her husband’s passing. “Eric became very ill soon after dinner,” says the report.
