The US Army has identified Captain Rebecca M. Lobach as the third soldier who tragically lost her life in the fatal collision between a Black Hawk helicopter and a Bombardier passenger jet near Ronald Reagan Airport in Washington, DC, earlier this week. The crash, which occurred on Wednesday, claimed the lives of all individuals on both aircraft. The Army had previously released the names of two other soldiers, and Captain Lobach’s identity was confirmed on Saturday.

Captain Lobach, a dedicated Army aviation officer from Durham, North Carolina, had been serving since July 2019. According to the Army Public Affairs website, she was honored with several awards during her service, including the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Army Service Ribbon.

In a heartfelt statement, the Army expressed its “deepest condolences” to Captain Lobach’s family and all those affected by the “devastating accident.” The release also emphasized that the Army is providing support to the families of the fallen soldiers and assisting with the ongoing investigation into the crash.

Captain Lobach’s family shared a touching tribute on the Army website, highlighting her academic and career achievements, including over 450 hours of flight time. They described her as “kind, generous, brilliant, funny, ambitious, and strong,” and requested privacy during this difficult time.

New Footage Released:
CWEB has learned that new footage of the crash site has been released, offering a clearer picture of the tragic incident. The footage, captured by nearby surveillance cameras, shows the moments leading up to the collision and the immediate aftermath. Authorities are analyzing the footage as part of the investigation to determine the cause of the crash.

Earlier Identifications:
The Army had previously identified the other two soldiers who were aboard the helicopter. Staff Sergeant Ryan Austin O’Hara, 28, of Lilburn, Georgia, served as the crew chief, while Chief Warrant Officer 2 Andrew Loyd Eaves, 39, of Great Mills, Maryland, was the pilot. Both soldiers were highly respected members of the Army, and their loss has deeply impacted their communities and colleagues.

CWEB’s Condolences:
CWEB extends its deepest condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of Captain Rebecca M. Lobach, Staff Sergeant Ryan Austin O’Hara, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Andrew Loyd Eaves, and all those who lost their lives in this tragic accident. Our thoughts are with everyone affected during this time of profound grief.

As the investigation continues, CWEB will provide updates on any new developments. The newly released footage serves as a somber reminder of the risks faced by military personnel and aviation professionals in their line of duty.
