Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., has delivered an announcement revealing the indictment of Kensly Alston, 18, and Halley Tejada, 19, for the murder of 52-year-old Nadia Vitels in her Kips Bay apartment last month. They were arrested on Friday morning by a Fugitive Task Force. Alston and Tejada face an array of serious accusations, including two counts of murder in the second degree, burglary in the first degree, robbery in the first degree, and various other charges related to stolen property and concealment of a human corpse.
Expressing heartfelt condolences to Vitels’ loved ones, Bragg announced that “Kensly Alston and Halley Tejada allegedly murdered Nadia Vitels in her apartment while she was moving in to start a new chapter of her life.” He also affirmed his commitment to ensuring justice for Vitels.
According to court documents and official statements, the events leading to Vitels’ tragic demise unfolded on March 10, 2024. Surveillance footage captured Vitels transporting items into her new apartment before leaving in her car. Later that day, Alston and Tejada were observed accessing Vitels’ apartment with a pink suitcase. According to sources, when Vitels discovered their presence, a confrontation ensued, resulting in Vitels being forcibly thrown into a sheetrock wall. Subsequent video footage corroborates claims that the two suspects absconded with her Lexus, departing the premises.
A couple of days later, the building superintendent and others accessed the apartment and found Vitels’ body in a duffle bag.
The pair of suspects reportedly traveled in the Lexus to Pennsylvania. During their journey, one of the suspects crashed the vehicle near Harrisburg. Subsequently, eyewitnesses spotted them at a local car dealership. Reports also reveal that the suspects purportedly used stolen credit cards to purchase a PlayStation 5, AirPods, clothing, food, and a diamond ring, among other things.
