UFC News: Cain Velasquez’s murder case sentencing pushed to 2025

Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez will have to wait until at least 2025 to hear his sentencing for the attempted murder of a man accused of molesting Velasquez’s son.

A court official at the Santa Clara County Hall of Justice in San Jose, Calif., announced Friday the matter is continued until early 2025, with no new date confirmed.

Velasquez, 42, is currently out on bail. He changed his initial plea of not guilty to no contest in August.

He faces 10 counts, including attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and more related to the April 2022 incident in which Velasquez allegedly chased and shot at a car carrying Harry Goularte, who had been accused of molesting Velasquez’s then-4-year-old son at a day care. During the incident, another passenger in the car was allegedly hit by a bullet from Velasquez’s gun, causing a non-life-threatening injury.

Goularte has a hearing Nov. 13 ahead of his trial on a felony charge of lewd acts with a minor.

The Velasquez family also has a civil lawsuit pending against Goularte, his family and the family’s businesses, which include the day care where the alleged crimes by Goularte occurred.
