Dan Hurley and UConn agreed to a six-year contract worth at least $31.5 million, the university announced Thursday.

Hurley’s new contract includes the opportunity to earn additional compensation in the form of performance-based incentives. ESPN reported the overall deal guarantees Hurley nearly $33 million, making him among the highest-paid coaches in men’s basketball.

Hurley guided the Huskies to the national championship in April, netting the deal that will run through the 2028-29 season. He has a record of 104-55 (.654) in five seasons at UConn with three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.

UConn beat San Diego State to cap a 2023 NCAA Tournament run.

“I am thrilled to have Dan Hurley leading our men’s basketball program,” athletic director David Benedict said in a statement. “The work he and his staff have done over the past five years in rebuilding our program, which culminated in the Huskies once again reaching the pinnacle of college basketball, has been nothing short of remarkable. I know all of UConn Nation is ecstatic that Dan will continue to lead this program for the foreseeable future.”

The Huskies will be reloading this season with guard Jordan Hawkins and center Adama Sanogo in the 2023 NBA Draft along with guard Andre Jackson Jr.

“I want to thank the players and staff who helped make this climb possible,” Hurley said in a statement. “Coaching at the University of Connecticut is an honor and we intend to build on our success as one of the premier programs in college basketball.”
