UConn freshman center Donovan Clingan is returning to the Huskies for the 2023-24 season.
“Back in the mix to go get number 6,” he posted to Instagram on Saturday, less than a week after he helped the Huskies program win a fifth national championship.
In high school, the 7-foot-2 Clingan was a two-time Connecticut player of the year. He led Bristol Central High to the state championship in his senior season, averaging 30.3 points, 18.4 rebounds and 6.2 blocks per game.
In his first season at UConn, Clingan came off the bench in all 35 appearances, averaging 6.9 points and 5.8 rebounds over 13.2 minutes per game. He completed 66 percent of his field goal attempts.
Clingan’s return will be good news for coach Dan Hurley, who on Friday lost star guard Jordan Hawkins to the upcoming NBA draft.
Hawkins, a sophomore, was a first-team All-Big East selection by averaging 16.2 points and making 109 3-pointers.
