Although it is twenty-one years since the 9/11 attacks, when terrorists brought down the twin towers at the World Trade Center, in New York City, the grief is fresh in the minds of the victims’ families who lost loved ones in the horrific attacks that shook the nation. Although a mastermind of the terror attack Ayman al-Zawahiri was recently annihilated by the CIA, under watch of the Biden administration, after Osama Bin Laden had been killed by Navy Seals, more than a decade ago, under the Obama administration, the wounds of the terror attacks remain fresh in the minds of the victims families and friends.
The day which is commemorated as both Patriot Day and a National Day of Service and Remembrance, always gives a sombre feeling to millions of Americans. Families of those who were killed in the terror attacks on 9/11 began gathering at ground zero, at the Pentagon or at a field in Pennsylvania to mourn the sad loss of thousands of lives.
On Sunday, President Joe Biden spoke and also laid a wreath at the Pentagon. The president said that he knew that 21 years for those who lost a family member or friend would be like “both a lifetime and no time at all.”
Biden also referenced Queen Elizabeth II, who recently died at the age of 96 by saying that her message to the Americans on 9/11 was “Grief is the price we pay for love.”
In his poignant address, Joe Biden also noted that the day was not only a day “to remember” but was also “a day of renewal and resolve for each and every American and our devotion to this country.”
First Lady Jill Biden spoke at Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where passengers and crew members tried to storm the cockpit to prevent a hijacked plane from reaching Washington and it crashed in a field. She was accompanied by her sister Bonny Jacobs, who is a flight attendant for United Airlines.
Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband First Gentleman Doug Emhoff joined the people at a commemorative service at the National Sept.11 Memorial in New York. It was a silent observation with no speech as traditionally no politician speaks at the ceremony at Ground Zero. Vice President Harris met the victims’ families as well as the first responders at Ground Zero.
