Tyler Perry never gets tired of playing Madea and if you never get tired of watching him, then the newest Madea film “A Madea Homecoming” is currently streaming on Netflix. The 70+ years old (age never mentioned in any of the movies so far) continues to entertain with her wit and all round craziness. The newest movie has a twist as a crossover character “Mrs. Brown” the Irish matriarch of “Mrs Brown’s Boys” also entertains as she clashes with the irascible Madea, during a family get together.
In 2019, Tyler Perry had hinted that “A Madea Family Funeral” would be his last reprisal of the role of Madea. However, as the pandemic raged, he felt that there was a need for another funny, yet heartwarming movie with the matriarch. Some experts also say that he would have continued playing her, as he identifies a lot with both her inner angels and demons and considers them as his own.
Seventeen years ago Madea appeared for the first time in the first Tyler Perry movie called the “Diary of a Mad Black Woman.” Since then her character has grown to the status of a figure of folklore. Other cast members include actors who have been reprising their roles in the earlier movies as well. Expect to see Cassi Davis-Patton, David Mann, Tamela Mann and more.
“A Madea Homecoming” follows the extended family as they get together for the college graduation of Madea’s great grandson. As the dramas and secrets spill out as usual, Madea is determined to ensure that the celebrations move forward without any hitch.
Fans of the previous 11 Madea movies are expected to enjoy this one as well as it has the usual soap opera twists, laced with humor and delivered in Tyler Perry style. The combination of two plus sized woman characters played by men has been an inherently popular theme and both Madea and Mrs. Brown, played by Brendan O’Carroll entertain their fans and showcase their feisty similarities despite apparently belonging to two diverse cultures–Black and Irish.
