Tyler Herro scored 21 of his game-high 31 points in the third quarter as the host Miami Heat routed the Los Angeles Lakers 134-93 on Wednesday night.

The Heat set a franchise record for assists (42), and they tied a team mark for made 3-pointers (24).

LeBron James led the Lakers with 29 points and eight assists against his former team. He made 12 of 18 shots from the floor.

But Lakers center Anthony Davis, who entered the game seventh in the NBA with a 27.8 scoring average, was held to eight points on 3-for-14 shooting.

Herro tied a Heat record for most 3-pointers in a quarter, making seven in the third.
In a span of almost three minutes in the third, Herro scored 15 straight points, hitting all five of his attempts from beyond the arc. Herro finished 9-for-16 on 3-pointers in the game.

Jimmy Butler – who missed Miami’s previous game due to a knee injury — added 17 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Bam Adebayo posted 14 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.

In the first quarter, Miami trailed early before going on a 14-0 run to take a 17-6 lead with 7:10 left in the period. Miami led 34-26 after one quarter.

The Heat stretched their lead to 21 points in the second quarter and went into halftime with a 69-52 advantage. Miami shot 70 percent from the floor and 4-of-8 on 3-pointers in the second quarter. The Lakers shot 45.5 percent and just 1-of-7 from deep.

James led all first-half scorers with 18 points on 8-for-11 shooting. Adebayo led Miami with 14 points.

Thanks to Herro’s hot hand, the Heat stretched their lead to 105-72 by the end of the third, and Miami rested its starters for most of the fourth.

Miami finished the game shooting 24-for-47 on 3-pointers (51.1 percent), and the Heat had a 52-36 rebounding advantage.

The Lakers went just 5-of-22 on 3-pointers (22.7 percent) in the loss.
