Two-time contestant at America’s Got Talent, Jay Jay Phillips recently succumbed to a COVID infection. The musician was 30 years old. A family member told TMZ that Jay Jay had been recuperating at home during Thanksgiving Week. His family was continuously checking on him over the phone. He had taken a turn for the worse, just one day before the holiday.
Family members asked him to get admitted into a hospital but he told them that he needed more sleep. They didn’t hear from him, after that conversation. Jay Jay’s girl friend and her mother, who is a nurse, had gone to his home on Thanksgiving. They found that he had died.
The family member who spoke exclusively to TMZ said that he was not vaccinated. However, just before he caught COVID, he spoke of getting vaccinated soon. He was living with his dad, who is currently on a ventilator, at a hospital.
Jay Jay Philips appeared on America’s Got Talent on the fourth season of the popular NBC show. He was out in early rounds. He reappeared on the show in the twelfth season. This time he was on for a longer time and was eliminated in the judge cuts that were made before the quarterfinals.
On Tuesday, Phillips’ band Metal Mafia officially announced his death. Phillips, along with his band mates, had released five albums. In their tribute they called him a “bandmate,” “brother,” and “friend.” They thanked him for teaching all of them “to laugh a little more.”
The heavy-metal keyboardist had a unique hairstyle which was sort of wild rock star hair. It added to his fame as did his talent as a musician in season 4 of America’s Got Talent. The Cleveland, Ohio native loved music from a young age. He was a performer in rock band concerts with his band Hysteria, in high school.
