On Thursday night two Kansas City Chiefs players were arrested for drug possession. They were booked in a prison on Friday morning and released later on Friday after posting a bond. The players pleaded non guilty. They are scheduled to appear for a court date for May 23, 2024. The Super Bowl 2024 winning NFL team is facing several problems from a few of its players during its off season.
Offensive tackles Wanya Morris and Chukwuebuka Godrick of Kansas City Chiefs were arrested with marijuana, in Johnson County, Kansas. They were temporarily arrested and then released after being booked. The Chiefs said that they knew about the arrests but declined to comment further on the matter. These two players are not the only ones who have been in the news for the wrong reasons.
Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker recently gave a commencement speech at Benedictine College in Kansas. His speech disparaged women according to many though some have supported him.
The NFL and activist groups condemned his comments. Supporters, however, have made his jerseys the top seller.
In March, Rashee Rice was arrested in Dallas when he reportedly was involved in a car crash in his Lamborghini. Police said that the Chiefs wide receiver had been driving 119 mph on a freeway before he caused the crash.
Rice is facing eight felony charges: one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury and six counts of collision involving injury. It is expected that the NFL will take disciplinary actions against the player that could include a suspension.
The Kansas City Chiefs began the year with a nail biting finish to win the Super Bowl LVIII 25-22 in overtime on February 11, at Allegiant Stadium, in Paradise, Nevada against the San Francisco 49ers. However, during off-season, its football players seemed to have created controversy and have also been arrested for misdemeanors. They need to get back to their winning game mindset as they will face the Ravens on September 5, to open their season as the reigning champions.
