On Saturday, a young mom of two was shot at a bank drive-thru in Worth. On Sunday, two suspects, a man and a woman, were taken into custody. After a thorough investigation, the police have charged both with first-degree murder. They are scheduled to appear at a detention hearing on Wednesday afternoon in a courthouse in Illinois.
Police said that Jonnie Angel Klein had been using an ATM drive-thru at the Chase bank branch located on 6838 W. 111th St., in Worth, Illinois. She was at the ATM at around 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon when one of the suspects shot her. The police said that they had been called to the 6800 block of West 111th Street as there was a person in need of assistance. They found a woman who was shot to death. She received a chest injury, reportedly due to a robbery gone bad.
The suspects, Tamara Jailyn Johnson and Jason Jerry Joseph Johnson, were taken into custody by the police the next day. Both 22-year-old Jailyn Johnson and 23-year-old Joseph Johnson are facing first-degree murder charges and will appear for a detention hearing at the Bridgeview Courthouse in Illinois on Wednesday afternoon.
Police at Worth also think that both may be involved in other crimes in northwest Indiana as well as in the Chicago area. Both are from Harvey, Illinois.
Worth police told CBS News Chicago that they had found many guns when they arrested the suspects. One of these guns was used to kill Jonnie Angel Klein. The police also confirmed that the rumors that there were children on the scene or involved in the incident were false.
Jonnie Angel Klein was a hardworking single mom with two young children. She was also the main caregiver for her mother, who is getting treatment for cancer. The family has established a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses and to support her children.
