Former President Donald Trump is facing a lot of criticism for hosting a dinner with celebrity rapper Kanye West, who has been canceled by many for his anti-semitic remarks, white supremacist Nick Fuentes and his former Florida campaign director Karen Giorno. All three of them had dinner with him at his residence Mar-A-Lago, in Florida, on Tuesday.
On Saturday, Donald Trump posted on his social media site Truth Social that he had agreed to meet Kanye West to “help” him. He referred to the celebrity rapper Kanye West as a “seriously troubled man.”
Trump also held “Fake News” responsible for the backlash he faced after the dinner. He said that he met Kanye to “give him very much needed advice” as West said he wanted to talk to Trump alone.
Trump earlier said that he didn’t know the people who had accompanied Ye, as he is now called. However, on Saturday Trump admitted that one of the guests who accompanied Kanye was “a political person who I haven’t seen in years.” He was supposedly referring to Karen Giorno, who had also accompanied Ye to Mar-A-Lago.
Former President Donald Trump has been facing immense criticism from many for this meeting with controversial and divisive people. Former ambassador to Israel David A. Friedman publicly criticized his “friend Donald Trump” on Twitter for hosting Fuentes and Ye whom he called “bums” and more.
On Sunday, two members of his own Republican Party also criticized Trump for hosting the dinner. Rep. James Comer said that Trump “needs better judgement on whom he dines with.” Appearing on NBC News’ Meet The Press, the GOP Representative of Kentucky said that he would not meet with either Kanye West or Nick Fuentes.
Republican Governor Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas described the dinner as “very troubling.” He told CNN’s State of the Union” that the meeting could strengthen extremists. He said, “You want to diminish their strength, not empower them. Stay away from them.”
Kanye has put a different spin to his meeting with former President Donald Trump in short videos for his 2024 presidential campaign with titles such as “YE24” and Mar-a-Lago debrief.”
