The Trump Organization, which is the holding company for Trump’s assets including buildings, golf courses and more, has been accused of aiding some top level employees to avoid paying income taxes for certain compensation such as rent-free apartments, luxury cars and more. The criminal case will begin on trial, on Monday, with jury selection. Although Trump is not expected to go on trial, his company will be on trial.
Although Donald Trump signed some of the cheques, he is not charged. He will neither testify, nor will he attend the trial. Allen Weisselberg, one of senior most executives at the Trump Organization had pleaded guilty to tax fraud, after reaching a plea agreement.
Weisselberg will not implicate Trump or any other member of his family. In his guilty plea, the former senior executive blamed himself and other executives from the Trump Organization such as Jeffrey McConney, who has also been given limited immunity.
The indictment said, “The purpose of the scheme was to compensate Weisselberg and other Trump Organization executives in a manner that was ‘off the books’.”
The Trump Organization said that it had done nothing wrong and it was looking forward to having their “day in court.”
Although Donald Trump and his family are not facing any personal charges in this case, if a jury finds the organization guilty, the Trump Organization will have to pay a fine. There will also be a change in perception and the company could find it difficult to do business in the nation.
Although Donald Trump is not facing charges in this criminal case, he is facing several other cases and problems some of which include:
A civil suit filed by Attorney General Letitia James for $250 million as well as a permanent ban on Trump conducting business in New York.
A lawsuit filed by magazine columnist E. Jean Carroll. She said that Trump raped her in a dressing room in a department store in the mid nineties.
An investigation by the FBI on Trump storing sensitive and classified documents in his Mar-a-Lago estate, in Florida.
An investigation by a grand jury in Georgia whether Trump and others made an attempt to influence election officials in the state.
A subpoena from the House committee that is the investigation the insurrection on the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
