Last week, Tristan Thompson finally acknowledged that he was the father of Maralee Nichols’ son. The Canadian born NBA player publicly posted that a paternity test had proved that he was the father of the child. He said that he would take responsibility to amicably raise their son. This ends the court battle but the amount of child support is yet to be decided.
The 30-year old NBA star already has two other children and pays child support of $40,000. According to a report in the HollywoodLife, lawyer Morgan Leia Richardson spoke exclusively to them and commented about his monthly support payments and more.
The New York marriage lawyer said that the basketballer could most likely pay child support up to when his child was 18, as per California law. The amount would be up to $40,000 as of now, as his income is roughly $10 million. The estimate according to the lawyer was $34,000 or more.
Maralee gave birth to a baby boy on December 2. There had been a court battle between the fitness instructor and the NBA player for weeks. He had refuted her claims as he was supposedly “exclusively dating” Khloe Kardashian who is the baby mother of his second child–a daughter called True. He has a 5-year old son called Prince with Jordan Hall for whom he is paying child support of $40,000.
The amount of child support for the child is now an approximation between $34,000 and $40,000. A case can be made that Tristan would pay less than 40,000 as he is already paying child support. On the other hand another case can be made that the newest child deserves as much a lifestyle as that is available to his siblings.
The attorney also said that sports players had a limited career span. The basketball player already had three children. If he might face an injury and might be unable to play, there could be a reduced amount for child support.
Morgan Lea Richardson also said. “I hope everyone involved” in the matter would set money aside for the kids. Tristan Thompson might also have to pay the fees and costs of the earlier case, when he was unwilling to admit to fathering the child. He waited for a paternity test to acknowledge that he is the father of the little boy he brought into the world with Maralee Nichols.
