“Trim Season” is a tense and eerie thriller set against the backdrop of Northern California’s marijuana farms. Directed by Ariel Vida and written by David Blair and Vida, it offers a gripping narrative that intertwines the real-life allure of quick cash with the chilling horror of isolation and secrets.

The plot follows Emma (Bethlehem Million) and her group of friends from Los Angeles, who, in their quest for easy money, drive up the coast to work on a secluded marijuana farm. What starts as a simple job soon unravels into a nightmare as they discover that Mona (Jane Badler), the seemingly amiable owner of the estate, harbors dark and sinister secrets.

Jane Badler’s performance as Mona is a standout, bringing a perfect blend of charm and menace to the character. She effortlessly transitions from being the welcoming host to a figure of fear, anchoring the film’s tension. Bex Taylor-Klaus and Alex Essoe also deliver strong performances, adding depth and believability to their roles as Emma’s friends caught in the web of terror.

The film excels in its atmospheric build-up, with Vida’s direction capturing the eerie isolation of the dense Northern Californian woods. The cinematography effectively uses the natural surroundings to enhance the sense of entrapment and dread, making the forest itself feel like a character that the group must contend with.

However, while “Trim Season” succeeds in creating suspense, some aspects of the plot feel predictable. The setup of young people stumbling upon danger in a remote location is a well-trodden path in horror, and the film doesn’t stray far from these conventions. Despite this, the solid performances and tight direction keep the story engaging.

The writing by Blair and Vida provides a solid foundation for the film’s thrills, though it occasionally dips into cliché territory. The dialogue is sharp, and the character interactions feel genuine, but the narrative’s twists can sometimes be seen coming. Nevertheless, the pacing is brisk, and the film maintains a sense of urgency that propels it forward.

This movie is a “Web Fans” must-see.

“Trim Season” is a commendable horror-thriller that leverages its unique setting and strong performances to deliver a gripping viewing experience. While it may not break new ground in the genre, it offers enough suspense and chills to keep audiences engaged. For fans of horror and thrillers, especially those who enjoy stories of isolation and hidden dangers, “Trim Season” is worth the watch.
