Three college students of Palestinian heritage were shot in Vermont, and local police announced early on Monday that a suspect had been taken into custody. The attack is being investigated as a possible hate crime. According to prior statements from authorities, the incident that left the three men injured at 6:25 p.m. on Saturday might have been a hate crime.
One is a legal U.S resident, while the other two are citizens of the United States. The males, two of them, wore the Palestinian keffiyeh scarves, which are black and white.
According to a previous statement from the police, a guy brandishing a pistol on Saturday night fired and injured the three victims on the street close to the University of Vermont in Burlington before fleeing.
The agency then verified that on Sunday afternoon, a suspect, Jason J. Eaton, 48, was taken into custody. The incident and the arrest will be discussed at a news conference later on Monday, according to Burlington police and the mayor’s office.
According to a statement released by Burlington Police Chief Jon Murad on Sunday, two of the males were in stable condition while the other had “much more serious injuries.” The three, all twenty years old, were approached by a white man brandishing a weapon while they were strolling around the residence of one of the victim’s relatives, according to the police.
