The three victims were killed in the Thursday evening attack after they reportedly left a youth group activity that was held at a local church. According to a social media post, two of the victims were a young, married couple. Missouri state Rep. Ben Baker posted about the sad death of his daughter Natalie Lloyd, 21, and her husband Davy Lloyd, 23, on Thursday in Haiti.
On Friday afternoon, Rep. Baker posted on social media that the bodies of Natalie and Davy Lloyd had been safely transported to the US Embassy.
Hannah Cornett, 22, the sister of Davy Lloyd, told the Associated Press that their parents have been full-time missionaries in Haiti. They have run a school, a church, and an orphanage in the country. She also said that she and her brothers spent their lives there and called Haiti “home.” She also mentioned that her brother Davy spoke Creole before he spoke English.
The third victim who was killed by the gang was Jude Montis. He was the director of Missions in Haiti Inc. Cornett said he had been working with her parents for the past two decades and left behind minor children aged two and six.
US Department of State spokesman Matthew Miller said the embassy was in contact with the families, and they acknowledged the “unimaginable grief” they suffered.
In the statement, he also reiterated that the unfortunate deaths served “as a reminder that the security situation in Haiti cannot wait—too many innocent lives are being lost.”
He also mentioned that the US government was committed to deploying a Kenyan-led mission to Haiti as soon as possible.
