The private screening of the film about Aretha Franklin will be premiering Sunday in Detroit. In attendance will be Jennifer Hudson along with family and friends of Aretha Franklin. the film is set to be released on August 13th, 2021.
The film is a chronicle of Aretha Franklin’s career in her life from the early stages of the 70s it is set to premiere in 500 theaters nationwide on August 8th. The film stars Jennifer Hudson. In tandem with Hudson’s visit is a tribute to the opening of the Detroit historical museum, The Wright Museum in exhibit featuring the wardrobe from the film. The exhibit is titled “R-E-S-P-E-C-T”. Costumes from the 1960s and accessories along with clothing and artifacts worn by Aretha Franklin will be on display in the collection.
Outside the museum handprints of Aretha Franklin will be on display. The special museum collection will run until the end of August.
Desiree Kelly and an “R-E-S-P-E-C-T” installation designed by Prop Art Studio will also be on display.
“Respect” also stars Forest Whitaker as the Rev. C.L. Franklin, and Marlon Wayans as the husband and manager playing Ted White. , Audra McDonald is casted as the mother of Aretha and plays Barbara Franklin. Marc Maron plays the character of the record producer for Aretha, Jerry Wexler.
Aretha Franklin the queen of soul passed away on Aug. 16, 2018, at age 76 from pancreatic cancer.
