The Radleys (2024) – Movie Review
The Radleys is a black comedy that brings a fresh, witty twist to the vampire genre. Directed with sharp humor and emotional depth, the film centers on the Radley family—vampires who have chosen to live a life of abstinence from drinking blood.
The parents, Helen (Kelly Macdonald) and Peter (Damian Lewis) have successfully maintained their suburban facade. Still, the situation spirals when their teenage children, Rowan (Harry Baxendale) and Clara (Bo Bragason), begin to exhibit their suppressed vampire instincts.
Macdonald and Lewis lead the cast with strong, nuanced performances, especially as Peter’s dual role extends to his brother Will, a practicing vampire who embraces his bloodthirsty side. Will’s interference forces Peter and Helen to confront their identities, blending horror elements with a biting, dark humor that gives the film its edge.
Baxendale and Bragason shine as the rebellious teens caught between their human upbringing and vampire urges. Sophia Di Martino and Shaun Parkes round out the ensemble with memorable supporting roles.
The film balances satirical elements with genuine family drama, exploring themes of repression, identity, and the chaos that unfolds when long-buried desires resurface. With its clever script and stellar cast, The Radleys is a compelling mix of dark humor and supernatural intrigue, making it a must-watch for comedy and horror fans.
