Following the weekend collapse of an elevated portion of Interstate 95, commuters in Philadelphia will experience a traffic nightmare for a few months to come.
Josh Shapiro, the governor of Pennsylvania, has declared he will declare a disaster to expedite federal funding. Around 6 a.m. on Sunday, a tanker truck fire under I-95 near the Cottman Avenue exit in the Tacony neighborhood of the city, caused the northbound lanes to collapse. The extremely congested stretch of road’s north and southbound lanes will be closed for months, according to officials.
Between the exits for Woodhaven Road in Northeast Philadelphia and Aramingo Avenue in the Port, all lanes of the roadway are closed.
