In “The Idea of You,” based on the popular contemporary novel, the spotlight shines on Solène (Anne Hathaway), a 40-year-old single mother whose life takes an unexpected turn when she embarks on a romance with 24-year-old Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine), the charismatic lead singer of August Moon, the world’s most popular boy band.
Set in Los Angeles, Solène Marchand, an art gallery owner grappling with divorce, finds herself at a crossroads as her milestone birthday approaches. Initially planning a solitary camping trip, her plans shift when she agrees to escort her daughter Izzy and friends to the Coachella festival after her ex-husband Daniel’s sudden absence due to work commitments.
Fate intervenes when Daniel’s arranged meet-and-greet with the teen group and boy band August Moon leads Solène to mistakenly enter Hayes Campbell’s trailer, sparking a flirtatious encounter. Despite their undeniable chemistry, Solène wrestles with their significant age gap. However, Hayes’ unexpected dedication of a song to her during the band’s performance ignites a more profound connection, challenging Solène to confront her reservations and embrace the allure of their budding romance.
