Sarah Ferguson has been diagnosed with skin cancer. She is 64 years old.
“I have been taking some time to myself as I have been diagnosed with malignant melanoma, a form of skin cancer,” she said on Instagram on Monday.
After receiving a breast cancer diagnosis in the summer and undergoing a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery, it was her second cancer diagnosis in less than a year. Later, she experienced a single mastectomy at the exclusive facility favored by senior royals, King Edward VII Hospital in London.

“It was thanks to the great vigilance of my dermatologist that the melanoma was detected when it was,” Fergie wrote Monday. “Naturally, another cancer diagnosis has been a shock, but I’m in good spirits and grateful for the many messages of love and support.”

The Duchess was outspoken about her treatment, encouraging other women to get screened and using her podcast to spread awareness of breast cancer in the hopes that it might be a life-saving diagnosis.
This has not been an easy week for the Royals. Princess of Wales had stomach surgery and will remain in the hospital for two weeks. The exact procedure had not been revealed. It was announced last week that King Charles III would undergo surgery for an enlarged prostate.
