The Count of Monte Cristo is a 2024 French adventure drama film directed and written by Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de La Patellière. It is an adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’s classic 1844 novel of the same name.

The story follows Edmond Dantès, a sailor betrayed by his friends and wrongfully imprisoned by a corrupt magistrate.

After escaping from prison, Dantès acquires a vast fortune and returns to France as the “Count of Monte Cristo.”

He uses his new identity to avenge those who conspired against him.

Pierre Niney stars in the lead role as Edmond Dantès. The film premised at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival on 22 May 2024, where it was screened out of competition. It is scheduled for a theatrical release in France on 28 June 2024 by Pathé.
