Dexter Dennis and Julius Marble scored 17 points each as host Texas A&M defeated LSU 69-56 on Saturday in College Station, Texas.
Tyrece Radford added 14 points and Wade Taylor IV had 13 as the Aggies (10-5, 2-0 SEC) dominated the game on the inside. They had a 42-10 advantage in points in the paint and an 18-5 edge in second-chance points. They held a 38-27 rebounding edge as Marble led the way with a game-high nine rebounds.
Adam Miller scored 16 points, and Cam Hayes and KJ Williams had 10 each to lead the Tigers (12-3, 1-2), who shot 34.7 percent (17 of 49) in their lowest-scoring game of the season.
Marble made back-to-back driving layups to start the second-half scoring and extend the Aggies’ lead to 38-23.
Williams made two free throws for the Tigers’ first points of the half and added a layup that trimmed the lead to 42-33.
Marble and Radford scored four points each as Texas A&M built the lead to 53-38 midway through the half.
The closest LSU got after that was 10 points and the Aggies took their biggest lead at 63-46 with 4:21 left.
Miller and Hayes started the LSU scoring with a pair of 3-pointers, but then the Tigers went scoreless for more than four minutes and the Aggies took an 11-6 lead.
Hayes made consecutive baskets to trim the lead to one before Texas A&M scored six straight points.
Another 3-pointer by Miller trimmed the lead to five before LSU hit another scoring drought.
The Tigers went more than four minutes without scoring and Dennis had six points as the Aggies took their biggest lead of the half, 32-17.
Justice Williams made a 3-pointer to end the drought and Hayes added a three-point play before Marble’s layup left Texas A&M with a 34-23 halftime lead.
