Tesla has recalled more than a million vehicles in the nation after it was found that the automatic reversal system in its windows might not react properly and this could lead to injuries. The windows can possibly pinch a person’s fingers, when it’s rolled up. The electric vehicle manufacturer told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that the software update of the automatic window reversal system would be done over the air. Tesla shares fell by 3.5 percent, in trading, on Thursday.
The Tesla vehicles that require the update include the following:
Model 3–2017 to 2022
Model Y–2020 to 2021
Model S–2021 to 2022
Model X–2021 to 2022.
NHTSA said that the vehicles were not in compliance with the requirements that are set for power windows as per the requirements of a federal motor vehicle safety standard.
The EV maker has said that vehicles from September 13 as well as vehicles in production and pre-delivery vehicles had received a software update. This update set the power-operated window operation to meet the requirements.
On Thursday, both the NHTSA and Tesla called the campaign a recall, according to documents. However, Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk called the terminology “outdated & inaccurate.” He described it as a “tiny over-the air” update of software and also claimed that there had been “no injuries.”
Tesla has seen an embarrassing episode with window safety way back, in 2019, when it claimed that its electric truck was made of stainless steel used to make rockets and that it could withstand a lot of applied pressure. Fans are waiting for more news to come.
Tesla Designer Franz von Holzhausen had thrown a steel ball on the windows of the displayed vehicle and the windows cracked under the impact of the throw. Although it was a public embarrassment, Elon Musk had claimed that the cracks in the window had taken place as the Tesla designer had reportedly hit the windows with a sledgehammer, in earlier tests.
