Tennessee sophomore forward J.P. Estrella announced Monday he will have season-ending foot surgery.

He missed the past three games with an injured left foot and could pursue a medical redshirt.

The 6-foot-11 Estrella averaged 4.7 points, 2.7 rebounds and 10.3 minutes in the first three games of the season.

“This has been a lingering injury and it is important to get it addressed,” Estrella posted on social media. “While I’m saddened that I won’t be able to compete the remainder of the season, I remain so excited to be a part of this program and will do everything I can to support my brothers as we continue to work towards our goals.”

The Volunteers (6-0) defeated Baylor 77-62 on Friday to win the Baha Mar Championship in Nassau, Bahamas.

“I’ll attack my rehab process and be back better than ever next season,” Estrella posted. “In the meantime, I can’t wait to see all of you at Food City Center and share a whole bunch of W’s with you. Go Vols.”

Estrella was a four-star recruit in the Class of 2023 out of Brewster Academy in South Portland, Maine. The 247 Sports composite ranked him as the No. 8 center and No. 61 player nationally.

Estrella competed in 25 games off the Tennessee bench as a freshman in 2023-24, averaging 1.6 points and 5.0 minutes per game.
