A recently turned 18-year old teenager has been found guilty of second-degree murder after a carjacking that resulted in the murder of a 73-old woman in New Orleans. Four teenagers aged between 15 and 17 were charged as adults. Three girls pleaded guilty to manslaughter for their role in the crime and received a 20-year prison sentence while the fourth teenager was charged with second degree murder and faced a trial.
According to a report in the New Orleans Advocate, there was a four hour jury deliberation on Monday and they found John Honore guilty of murder. He was the getaway driver and had dragged 73-year old Linda Frickey alongside the SUV they stole from her up to the length of two football fields. The horrific incident shocked the residents of New Orleans.
Frickey was severely injured and lay on the scene of crime awake face up, arm severed for about 20 minutes till emergency workers could arrive. She was dead due to multiple injuries by the time they arrived.

New Orleans police said that they recovered the SUV at a distance of about two miles from the scene of the crime. They found an earbud that had DNA from Honore and he was in custody.
Local media released street camera footage of the carjacking gone bad. Honore’s mother identified her son and his girlfriend Lenyra Theophile, 16. Briniyah Baker, 17 and Mar’Qel Curtis, 16 were identified by their parents as the other two girls involved in the carjacking.
The outlet also reported that all the three girls pleaded guilty to attempted manslaughter, on November 20. They received 20 years in prison for their roles in the carjacking.
Honore stood on trial that began with the admission that he committed the crime. Six witnesses gave testimony against him. His attorney described him as an underdeveloped and underprivileged youth whose life would be thrown away if he faced life at Angola’s prison.
Honore’s attorney said that youth were “dumb” and also blamed parental and community failures for problems among them. However, he also admitted that his defense was dependent on the mercy of the jury. The jury found John Honore guilty. January 12 has been set as the day of sentencing.
