Taylor Swift had issued a profound and emotional apology to her fans as she announced disappointing news. She said that her Lover Fest tour has been canceled. She clarified reason for the cancellation and said that she wants to be able to “safely perform.”
The popular singer had already postponed many of her 2020 summer tour dates due to the pandemic. The 31-year old star who is dating Joe Alwyn, a British actor, wanted to promote her album Lover through tours but COVID-19 played spoilsport in 2020 and 2021, leading to the postponement of her 2020 appearances and now the entire tour has been canceled in 2021.
However, all was not in vain last year as she dropped two albums – Folklore and Evermore. These albums were recorded when the stay home protocols were enforced. The lockdown may have taken away personal appearances but it hasn’t stopped creativity from flowing among established and new artistes.
The star posted a long statement on Twitter. She said that she missed her fans and followers a lot and that she couldn’t wait till everyone could “safely be at shows together again.”
She added that she loved to post good news and new projects on her page but this time she had to post disappointing news for all. She also spoke of refunds available but also how many fans had clung on to their tickets and that she had also hoped that they could reschedule.
She said, “I’m so sorry, but I cannot reschedule the shows that we’ve postponed.”
She mentioned how the pandemic had changed plans and that no one had an idea about the future of tours.
Early February, she had also announced some good news saying that she had completed re-recording her breakthrough albums, the same ones which were mired in controversy when they were acquired by Scooter Braun.
Braun, the music manager of both Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande, had acquired the rights to her back catalogue. Swift had called him an “incessant manipulative bully.”
Since then she has recorded new versions of her old hits in an album titled Fearless. It will include 26 tracks. She had added six absolutely new and original songs. These include songs that she had written as a teenager. If fans choose to play Taylor Swift’s new versions, Braun will not earn money.
Taylor Swift has said in the past that “Artists should own their own work” for many reasons.
