A Texas jury on Wednesday found the defendant guilty of murdering a pregnant lady with the intent to take her unborn child and sentenced the defendant to death. 29-year-old Taylor Parker was found guilty by a jury of six men and six women in Bowie County after just over an hour of deliberation, according to the Texarkana Gazette. The same Bowie County jury found Parker guilty of capital murder on October 3 in the 2020 killing of Reagan Simmons-Hancock, age 21, whose unborn child was removed from her womb but did not survive.
Simmons-Hancock’s body was discovered on October 9, 2020, at her New Boston residence. When she was killed, her 3-year-old daughter was at home. According to reports, on the morning of October 9, 2020, Parker used a hammer to break the 35-week pregnant Simmons- Hancock’s skull and stabbed her more than 100 times in her house before using a knife to remove her unborn child. Parker ran away with the child, a daughter. Later that morning, after being stopped by a state trooper for speeding and erratic driving, Parker said she had just given birth. The infant was transferred to a hospital in Oklahoma, where doctors declared her death.
According to the prosecution, Parker staged ultrasounds, held a gender reveal party, and made herself appear pregnant in an effort to maintain her partner. In an elaborate plan to keep her partner from leaving her, Parker allegedly faked her own pregnancy in the ten months prior to the murder. She talked about her pregnancy online, staged ultrasounds, wore pregnancy disguises, and even hosted a gender reveal party for the fictional child.
Parker, who underwent a hysterectomy because she was unable to conceive, informed her boyfriend that she would undergo an induction on the day of the murder. She allegedly spent a lot of time researching how to pretend to be pregnant and watching videos about delivering children early.

In her closing remarks, Kelley Crisp, the prosecutor showed the jury a photograph of the victim at the crime scene. She informed the jury that Parker poses a threat. Crisp said that the victim had been assaulted and “slashed” several times in addition to having her unborn child pulled from her womb.
