Four-time kickboxing world champion Andrew Tate, his brother Tristan Tate, and two alleged female accomplices have been released from detention in Romania. A Romanian judge ruled that the brothers and two accomplices be placed under house arrest, Tate’s spokesman said. The brothers and two women were arrested at the end of December and held in custody at Bucharest jail for alleged human trafficking, rape, and crime gang offenses.

The influencers appealed the court’s decision to keep them in jail for an additional 30 days and were successful today, after failing to do so earlier this week, despite making several pleas. Along with two Romanian women who were also detained in connection with the probe, they are being placed under house arrest. The Tates were held on preventative arrest after being taken from their luxurious house in Bucharest and placed in “preventative arrest.” They reportedly made six attempts to obtain their release.
The influencers became well-known on social media last summer after a series of contentious videos they posted became popular, prompting worried viewers to label them misogynistic and dangerous. Despite being imprisoned, the siblings remained active on social media, with Andrew’s page updating his 5.4 million fans frequently. Tristan posts daily updates for his 1 million social media fans.
The two brothers, who are yet to be officially charged, could have been detained in this way for a total of six months as part of their “preventative arrest.”
