The Minnesota Timberwolves shored up offensively and defensively on Saturday, announcing they exercised the fourth-year options on guard Anthony Edwards and forward Jaden McDaniels.

Edwards showed this past season why he was taken as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft out of Georgia. The 21-year-old Atlanta native led all second-year players in scoring with 21.3 ppg, 3-pointers made per game (3.0) and total points (1,533).

Edwards impressed offensively throughout the season, leading all sophomores in 40+ point games (three) and tying for the most 30+ point games (nine). With his fourth career 40+ point game on Jan. 25 against Portland, he tied Kevin Durant and Luka Doncic for the second-most 40+ point games in NBA history before turning 21 years old.

McDaniels, 22, is considered one of the most versatile defenders in the league, especially when it comes to guarding positions one through four.

This past season, the native of Federal Way, Wash., saw increases in almost every statistical category, averaging 9.2 points on 46.0 percent shooting and adding 4.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.

On Jan. 30 against the Utah Jazz, McDaniels notched a career-high 22 points on 9-for-9 shooting, making him one of only two Timberwolves players ever to shoot perfect from the field (minimum of nine field goals attempted), with Dante Cunningham achieving the feat in 2013 against the New Orleans Hornets.
