Bryan Christopher Kohberger, 28, was apprehended by local police and the FBI at 3 a.m. Friday in Scranton, Pennsylvania, according to a law enforcement source.
Kohberger is being held in Monroe County Court for extradition on first-degree murder charges issued by the Moscow Police Department and the Latah County Prosecutor’s Office in connection with the deaths of Ethan Chapin, 20, Xana Kernodle, 20, Kaylee Goncalves, 21, and Madison Mogen, 21.
The arrest on Friday was the first major development in the case, with Kohberger asking if ‘anyone else was arrested’ when he was taken into custody.
Police are now searching Kohberger’s apartment in Washington, which is about ten miles away from the crime scene, and arrived around 7.30 a.m. to cordon off the area.
Based on an active arrest warrant for first-degree murder issued by the Moscow Police Department and the Latah County Prosecutor’s Office, Kohberger is being held for extradition in a criminal homicide investigation.
He earned a master of arts in criminal justice from DeSales University in Pennsylvania in May 2022.
Kohberger posted an appeal for help on social media as part of his research into how ’emotions and psychological traits influence decision-making when committing a crime.’
A white Hyundai Elantra was towed from the home where the suspect was arrested, according to NBC News.
There was no evidence of a sex crime found, and the victims had wounds on their bodies, indicating that they attempted to fight off the attacker.
