Randon Lee, the 18-year-old who was murdered on June 24 at an Exxon gas station in Prichard, Alabama, was the son of celebrity TikTok star Ophelia Nichols. A 20-year-old male has been detained in connection with his death. On Thursday in the late afternoon, the suspect turned himself in at the Mobile County Metro Jail. Randon Lee was shot the day before his 19th birthday.
Reuben Gulley of Saraland, Alabama, is now being held in custody on a murder accusation, according to the jail’s website.
After using her internet platform to address the shocking passing of her son Randon Lee, Ophelia Nichols gained notoriety. On June 25, Nichols posted on TikTok that Lee had passed away, to her 8.7 million followers. She disclosed in a video that her son had been shot to death the previous evening at an Exxon station in Prichard, Alabama.
In an emotional TikTok video, Nichols–who frequently posts encouraging, kind words on TikTok for people who have been bullied–asked her fans to assist in finding her son’s killer.
On June 27, there was a press conference held by Prichard police where it was reported that the investigation had revealed that Lee had been selling marijuana to two suspects at the gas station before he was shot by one of them. According to Detective Jason Hadaway, Lee was able to get away and make it to another petrol station before succumbing to his injuries there.
The celebrity influencer revealed that her son was having mental issues and had “had a lot of trouble after his dad passed” away. He was in depression, and the family did everything they could to keep him on the right track. He seemed to be fine and everyone had planned to meet over dinner on his birthday. She said he belonged to a good family and a good home, but sometimes that did not matter.
It is unclear whether Prichard police believe Gulley or the other suspect shot Lee, but clarification is anticipated on Friday when Gulley has a bond hearing.
