The US Supreme Court ruled in favor of Donald Trump on Monday. The Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump will be on the ballot of Colorado and other states in the nation which had put the matter on hold waiting for the ruling from the highest court in the land. The Supreme Court ruled that states could not remove Trump from the ballot by citing the January 6 insurrection.

Earlier, the Colorado Supreme Court had determined that Donald Trump could not run for the presidential elections under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment of the Constitution. The US Supreme Court reversed this decision in an unsigned ruling. There was no dissent.

Section 3 prevents those who held government positions from running for various offices in government in future, if they had “engaged in insurrection.”

The Supreme Court ruling said, “Because the Constitution makes Congress, rather than the states, responsible for enforcing section 3 against all federal officeholders and candidates, we reverse.”

The highest court in the nation decided the case on legal basis. It avoided analyzing or determining whether the actions of Trump could be considered as an insurrection.

The Supreme Court’s ruling has been made a day before the Colorado primaries, on Tuesday. Sixteen states and one territory will hold their primary elections on Super Tuesday.

Trump posted on his social media site, in all capitals, “Big win for America!!!”

The Supreme Court decision also ends the necessity of hearing similar cases put forth by Maine and Illinois.

Last Wednesday, the Supreme Court had announced that it would hear an argument in late April on the issue of Trump being tried on charges of conspiring to overturn the 2020 election. This decision is expected to be made end June or early July.

Donald Trump is facing several cases, one of which has been resolved in his favor. He might have to face other cases before the 2024 presidential elections.
