Starbucks is not new to controversy when it launches new cups. The coffee giant released new paper cups, which sparked another controversy on social media as web fans posted diverse responses. Some web fans posted about how they did not like the cups and would shift loyalties to competitors, while others were happy that Starbucks was trying to decrease its plastic footprint on our only planet.
A Starbucks spokesperson told The Daily Mail that the chain was testing new cold cups at 24 locations, as per local mandates.
The spokesperson told the outlet, “Based on local mandates, customers at 24 stores will be served their favorite Starbucks beverage in fiber-based compostable cold cups.”
According to the Daily Mail, the spokesperson also said, “To help further our environmental goals, Starbucks is working to reduce waste to landfill by 50 percent and ensure all customer-facing packaging is recyclable, reusable, or compostable by 20230.”
Days earlier, a manager at the Alameda Starbucks told KRON-4’s Michael Thomas that it was the only location of the coffee giant on the West Coast serving its beverages in fiber-based cups.
One web fan, who was served a favorite beverage in the new paper cup, was unhappy with the new cups. A California-based creator, Bay, posted dismay about the new cups on social media, which went viral.
Bay went to another location and was happy that the new Starbucks drink was served in a plastic cup. The creator mentioned that the nearby store could be a test store.
Some web fans agreed with the video’s views and preferred plastic cups. One of them also spoke of a change in coffee provider, naming a rival coffee chain.
Some web fans were happy that the coffee giant had introduced these new white cups and also posted on the video that the paper was “nostalgic” and more.
