As the summer heat begins iced brews, beverages and ice creams are in demand. On Tuesday, America’s popular beverage chain Starbucks introduced two new products on its summer menu: Chocolate Cream Cold Brew and Lime-Frosted Coconut Bar. Both these new items will be available at the coffee chain throughout the year together with a few returning favorite beverages and desserts.
According to Starbucks, the newest cold coffee called Chocolate Cream Cold Brew contains Starbucks Cold Brew that is topped with chocolate cream cold foam and has been sweetened with vanilla syrup. The foam is described as “light, sweet and silky.”
Rosalin Batingan, who is a part of the Starbucks beverage development team, said that the aim was to make a drink that would “transport” their customers to their “favorite summer memories with each sip.” Batingan also said that the team believed that coffee with notes of chocolate and a malt flavor in the chocolate cold cream foam would remind people of a “chocolate malted milkshake” or the “last bit of melted chocolate ice cream on a warm summer day.” The company wished to “recreate the sweet, creamy flavor of summers past.”
Starbucks Cold Brew has been a part of its menu from 2015. It is made using a custom blend of coffee beans from Latin America and Africa. Starbucks baristas handcraft the brew in small batches, everyday. It is slowly steeped in cool water for a period of 20 hours. The resultant brew has “sweet, smooth flavors with soft cocoa notes.”
The coffee chain has priced the new cold brew between $5.25 to $5.45 depending on the location of the outlet in the U.S. A majority of Starbucks’ sales in summer are from cold drinks. Last year these cold drinks accounted for 74 per of the chain’s summer sales. Cold brews and ice coffees also see return orders from the chain’s regular customers and revenues are growing as the demand for these cold brews keeps increasing.
