South Carolina remains the consensus No. 1 team in the Associated Press Top 25 women’s basketball poll after completing a second straight undefeated regular season.
Coach Dawn Staley’s Gamecocks (29-0) received all 35 first-place votes in Monday’s rankings and are the No. 1 seed for this week’s Southeastern Conference tournament.
No. 2 Stanford (26-4) and No. 3 Iowa (26-4) moved up in a reshuffled top 10, while No. 25 Fairfield (26-1) is ranked for the first time in program history.
Fairfield is on a 24-game winning streak and becomes the fourth team (first since 2011) from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference to crack the poll, joining Saint Peter’s, LaSalle and Marist.
No. 4 Ohio State (25-4) fell two spots and Southern California (23-5) moved up two to No. 5. Texas (27-4), UCLA (24-5), LSU (26-4), UConn (26-5) and North Carolina State (25-5) round out the top 10.
The Pac-12 has three of the top seven teams and six overall in this week’s poll. The Atlantic Coast Conference is next with five, followed by the Big 12 (four) and Big Ten (three).
