San Antonio Spurs second-leading scorer Devin Vassell will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and be out indefinitely.
The team said Thursday that Vassell will have the procedure in New York on Wednesday and that further updates will come “as appropriate.”
Vassell, 22, has missed three of the past four games with soreness in the knee. He played 26 minutes in Monday’s blowout loss to Brooklyn, scoring 14 points on 5-of-13 shooting.
Vassell is scoring 19.4 points per game, second on the team behind Keldon Johnson, in 29 games (24 starts) this season. He’s averaging more than seven points more than his previous high of 12.3 last season. Vassell also averages 4.0 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game.
The Spurs selected Vassell No. 11 overall in the 2020 draft.
The Spurs sit 12-26 in the Western Conference, ahead of only the Houston Rockets.
