Many Disney fans thronged Walt Disney World to enjoy a last ride on Splash Mountain, before it was closed for reimagining. Some eBay (EBAY) sellers decided to make the most of the ride by selling “authentic” Splash Mountain water that they reportedly collected from the popular log ride. Disney fans crowded the park to enjoy one last ride and some of them decided to capitalize on it being the last day of the ride.
The Disney ride has been an iconic one. The last ride was historic as well as nostalgic and gave some people the idea of packing and selling nostalgia, as water in a bag or bottle
Several merchants on the popular e-commerce website eBay said that they had small quantities of “genuine Splash Mountain water” for sale. The sellers claimed that the water had been collected during the last ride at Walt Disney World. The rates varied and the water was available at listings such as $20, $25, $45, $50, $100, $150 and even $1000.
Other pieces of Splash Mountain memorabilia have been sold by the park for months, soon after Disney announced that it would be closing this historic and iconic ride.
The Splash Mountain water ride faced criticism as its featured characters belong to the feature Song of the South. This animated feature from 1946 stereotyped black men as well as romanticized post-Civil War South.
Splash Mountain remained a popular ride for three decades. In 2020, Disney announced that it will shut down the log ride.
The ride is expected to return as an attraction titled “Tiana’s Bayou Adventure” inspired by feature The Princess and the Frog by the end of 2024 at the U.S. Disney Parks. The Disney Parks blog said that it would be a “one-of-a-kind celebration for the people of New Orleans.”
