Spectrum (CHTR) introduces a new kind of cable streaming device, ‘Xumo.’Move over old-fashioned cable boxes; watching TV is about to improve. The streaming business has taken over legacy TV channels for years thanks to Roku, Apple TV, Hulu, Sling, Disney+, and more.
By using a technique called streaming, you may watch TV on internet-connected devices, including gaming consoles, laptops, cell phones, and smart TVs. Both live events, like sporting events and award shows, and pre-recorded content, such as movies and TV shows, can be viewed.
Cutting the cord has been quite a challenge for consumers. Many end up having to pay for many services that can end up being just as costly as cable. Everything seems to be paid to play- especially in sports.
Big cable providers Comcast and Charter have developed a cutting-edge cable box that offers streaming apps and the best live TV. Spectrum is now selling it, and Xfinity will follow suit shortly. One Xumo Stream Box will be given to new Charter Spectrum television customers for the first year at no cost. After that, additional units can be purchased or used for a monthly service charge. Customers of Charter Spectrum can pay $5 a month or $60 for the box upfront.
Consumers can now use an integrated Spectrum TV app on the Xumo Stream Box to get Charter’s pay TV service. In addition to offering access to over 300 integrated subscription and free, ad-supported apps, Xumo combines live and on-demand TV. These apps include Max, MLB.TV, Netflix, Paramount+, Peacock, Pluto, Amazon Prime Video, Tubi, and Xumo Play, Apple TV+, Disney+, and Hulu,
Instantly, upon turning on Xumo, live TV begins to stream. This sets it apart from other streaming devices like Apple TV, Fire TV, and Roku, which only display a home page and require user input.
Xumo, a joint venture between Comcast and Charter, will deliver the next generation of video entertainment. It announced the release of Xumo Stream Box for Spectrum customers today and promises to extend its availability to Xfinity homes shortly. The newest gadget to run Comcast’s Entertainment Operating System (OS), Xumo Stream Box offers the latest entertainment experience that makes discovering content, regardless of where it resides.
“Watching TV was designed to be a relaxing, lean-back experience, but today’s fractured entertainment landscape has added complexity that makes finding something to watch more burdensome for consumers,” said Marcien Jenckes, President of Xumo. “When we started Xumo, we set out with the ambition to take the decades of entertainment experience and technical innovation from Comcast and Charter and build a complete entertainment experience that breaks down the streaming silos and makes TV easy again.”
Xumo is streaming simplified, bringing a live TV experience together with all the top apps,” said Rich DiGeronimo, President of Product and Technology for Charter. “With Xumo Stream Box, customers have endless entertainment options simplified, with aggregated search across apps and curated content offerings based on the customer’s interests and subscriptions, which will be even more powerful as direct-to-consumer apps are included with Spectrum service.”
