Bronx Sheriff Dept,

The mother of the 16-year-old, who was killed when walking home from her school in New York City, has called the plea deal given to her daughter’s killer lenient. A stray bullet from the killer Jeremiah Ryan’s ghost gun killed her daughter, when he was involved in a street fight between rival gangs near the Bronx School, where the young teen was studying.

On April 8, 2022, University Prep Charter High School student Angellyh Yambo was walking home from school when she was struck by a stray bullet that was fired when rival gangs were shooting each other near her school. The 16-year was killed while two other students were injured.

Jeremiah Ryan, who was 17-years old during the shooting, fired six rounds using a Polymer 80 ghost gun during the Bronx Street fight. A ghost gun is an untraceable firearm that can be bought online and assembled anywhere including a home.

Angellyh Yambo’s mother Yanely Henriquez told the New York Post she was not pleased with the plea deal that the DA’s office had made with her daughter’s killer. She wanted him to get a longer sentence of 25-years to life while he has been given a 15-year to life sentence behind bars.

She also told the outlet on Saturday that that she would “never forgive him” for what he had done to her and her family and that was “never going to change.”

Although she acknowledged that there was “a lot on the line” if the case would go on trial she noted that the lenient sentence might give him “an opportunity to get out of jail.” She also said that he had a second chance in life while her daughter didn’t get one.

Patrick O’Shaughnessy, who is a spokesperson for the District Attorney’s office in Bronx said that the plea deal with Ryan had been struck after “full consultation with the entire family.

The spokesperson also said that the family had agreed to the deal as they “did not want to sit through a trial.”
