Phoenix Mercury guard Skylar Diggins-Smith took aim at her own team on Thursday, with the six-time All-Star describing how she views that she’s been treated while on maternity leave.

When a fan noted on Twitter that the Mercury didn’t acknowledge the 33rd birthday of Diggins-Smith on Wednesday, the six-time WNBA All-Star responded with the following:

“They’re not gonna acknowledge me this year and it’s OK guys,” Diggins-Smith tweeted. “We’re not affiliated unless it’s the checks….per management. I can’t even use the practice facility or any resources.”

The reaction of a Twitter user to that comment about Diggins-Smith’s inability to use the team’s facilities prompted another response from the player.

“Sadly, no…or any massage therapists, chiropractor, chefs, strength and conditioning, nutritionist accessibility, etc… (that) EVERY other player has access to,” Diggins-Smith tweeted. “However I’m still down 48 lbs on my own and I’m feeling great!”

Diggins-Smith missed the final four games of the 2022 season due to personal reasons. She later acknowledged that she was expecting her second child with her husband, Daniel Smith, and she gave birth to their daughter earlier this year. They also have a 4-year-old son.

Diggins-Smith has averages of 16.7 points, 5.0 assists and 2.9 rebounds in 252 career games (239 starts) with the then-Tulsa Shock (2013-15), Dallas Wings (2016-18) and Mercury.
